E3 Down…but not out.

E3 LogoLooks like my chances of attending next years E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo) have dropped from 25% to 0%.  According to Next-Gen, Doug Lowenstein, President of Entertainment Software Association, will be announcing the cancellation of the E3 industry event for next year and possibly indefinitely.  E3, in recent years, has grown to be the largest exposition for game hardware and software developers allowing for incredible exposure for these companies.  The growing cost in participating at E3 has unfortunately scared away many of these companies, even some of the biggies.

Publishers believe the multi-million dollar budgets would be better spent on more company-focused events that bring attention to their own product lines rather than the industry as a whole.

It’s truely a shame that it’s come to this.  I always looked forward to this week in May…despite it being a bit over-the-top, it was great to be bombarded with a slew of exciting news from the gaming circle.

Update:  Looks like E3 is not completly done for.  Instead, E3 will not be the game show to end all game shows.  It will take place next year, but will be in an undisclosed hotel and will be host to only 5000 peeps.  Bollocks!
